SIMPLY GREAT is a sensitive and deeply moving Hebrew-language play, brought to us by the Israeli Theatre Hashaah.
The play centres on an autistic teenage boy, yet its focus is not on him alone, but on the effect his presence has on the people around him. Through family, community, and everyday encounters, the play gently explores how we respond to those who do not fit comfortably within society’s expectations.
Written by a playwright drawing on lived experience, SIMPLY GREAT is honest, thoughtful and quietly powerful. It invites the audience to reflect on empathy, acceptance and the ways in which difference challenges and enriches us all.
In collaboration with Spiro Ark, Shomrei Synagogue is the only venue presenting this production in Hebrew, offering a rare cultural opportunity for those learning or maintaining the language. This performance is particularly suited to people with intermediate or advanced Hebrew and provides a rewarding experience for anyone wishing to test and strengthen their understanding of spoken Hebrew in a theatrical setting.
For those who wish, the Hebrew script and English translation can be shared in advance to support language confidence and enjoyment.
Parents of Hebrew-speaking teenagers are warmly encouraged to attend with them, for both the language immersion and the important conversation the play opens around neurodiversity and inclusion.
Following the performance, audience members are welcome to discuss the play further and reflect on its themes.
