Eli Timan has spent ten years recording people speaking the Iraqi-Jewish dialect.  What makes it different from the language spoken by Muslims in Iraq, and how can we preserve a language that will die out with the last Jews born in Arab countries?

Kanoun al-Nisa (The Law of Women) by the famous Rabbi Yosef Hayyim was written in Arabic but reproduced in Hebrew characters.  This copy, found in the Iraqi-Jewish archive in the Baghdad secret police headquarters, was printed in Livorno over 100 years ago.
