Robert Rietti, the beloved and talented Jewish film and theatre actor is reflecting upon his life where his skill as a "a weaver of tales" keeps the reader enthralled from cover to cover.
Robert started his acting career as a child prodigy following in his thespian father Victor, portraying on stage Poor Joe in Charles Dickens Bleak House.
He and his late wife Tina have been our friends for many decades but in his modesty he never revealed or boasted about working together with such giants as Orson Welles, Sir John Gielgud, Lord Olivier, Elizabeth Taylor ... to name but a few. We only learnt about it while reading the book.
Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks has written about the book:"This is a lovely and moving book, inviting us to recognize the moments at which we were touched by the sheltering wing of Divine providence and for a moment felt the whispers of eternity signalling a purpose beyond the winds of chance..."
Robert will read some extracts from his book, including an account of how during World War Two at the age of fifteen, he was imprisoned and later sent to a detention camp, as the son of "an Enemy Alien" and a suspected "Fifth Columnist". He was one of only five Jews among 150 members of Oswald Mosley's British Union of fascists and was attacked by a fanatical anti-Semite who
attempted to kill him, and he was saved by an Italian race-course razor gang who came to his rescue.
The book is published at the price of £15, but purchasers of signed copies at the Launch will be offered it at a reduction of £3.
