As described by David Cohen:
"It is my intention to deliver (...) a series of lectures on dramatic themes- some of which are turning points in Jewish History. These are to be given on a weekly basis, but each theme entirely self- contained the overriding objectives will be:

a) To demonstrate how and why Jewish History is so fundamentally important to us in the 21st Century
b) To examine, by reference to past events and their interpretation, whether Jewish History has any ultimate purpose.

Whilst my primary focus will be upon ideological and Religious issues and conflicts, I shall also endeavour to illustrate vividly the social, economic and cultural milieu in which Jews lived throughout the ages. The interchange of ideas between Jewish and Gentile society will also be analysed in depth, and finally, the debt owed by European civilisation to the Jews will be assessed.

Many issues raised by me will undoubtedly be controversial but it is hoped that this in itself will arouse interest. Questions from the audience will be encouraged."
