When the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain announced on the 3rd September 1939 that Britain was at war with Germany, lives millions of people changed completely. The aim of this exhibition is to show how war shaped the reality not only for ordinary men and women but also for the politicians involved in political negotiations and decision taking. We will see historical material and personal memorabilia which will get us closer to the events before, on and shortly after the 3rd September.
As a bonus to this visit, we have organized an exclusive talk on 'Children's War and Outbreak 1939' given by Grant Rogers, who is responsible for Informal Education at the museum and a fellow in Holocaust education.
