Doctor Henry Green will talk about his current project, The Forgotten Exodus: Jews from Islamic Lands, which is the first comprehensive and systematic video/oral history project to document and preserve the testimonies of the Sephardic/Mizrahi displaced from their homes in the Middles East, the eastern Mediterranean and North Africa in the wake of Zionism and the establishment of the State of Israel. It gives voice to the hundreds of thousands of Jews that were confronted by issues of human rights, lost their citizenship and property, and became refugees. The project challenge is to preserve their history and legacy before the exile generation disappears. Dr. Green has testified on behalf of the Sephardi/Mizrachi refugees from Islamic lands before Congress (USA) and the House of Lords (England).
Dr. Green is the Founding Director of the Jewish Museum of Florida (Miami) and the curator of the MOSAIC exhibit that traces the history of the Jews that migrated to Florida from Spain post Inquisition (early 16th century) to the end of the 20th century. His book of the exhibit, Jewish Life in Florida (1991), argues that the first Jews in the United States were conversos who settled in St. Augustine (1565), and that the first Jewish Senator to serve in Congress was a Sephardic Jew from Florida, David Levy Yulee (1845), pre Judah P. Benjamin (1851), his cousin.
Dr. Green studied in Canada, Israel and France and Great Britain. He was a postgraduate student at Oxford University and received his Ph. D. from St. Andrews University.
