Zing are set to transform Spiro Ark's infamous concert room into a glamorous 1940s Jazz speakeasy with an array of songs that all the hip Jewish kids were listening and jiving to back in that day. As well as some old favourites which have been performed by top artists including Ella Fitzgerald, the band have unearthed some cross-over hits from the era, which were recorded by some of the most unlikely artists such as Cab Calloway. Yes, that's right -- Cab Calloway sang in Yiddish folks!
Zing formed in 2007 as a trio playing Jazz songs written by Jewish composers from the American songbook and Yiddish swing numbers from the 1940s. As well as performing at private parties, weddings and functions, the band has become a favourite among Jewish Community organisations including Limmud and the Leeds International Jewish Arts and Culture Festival.
