29 October - 3 December
Fascinating course with Manuela Rathaus-Alper, Angela Gluck, Rabbi Jeremy Gordon and Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg.
The series will retell the lives of ten remarkable women: warriors, prophets, priests, queens, wives and mothers. We will explore the depiction of these powerful women and their dramatic stories through biblical, midrashic and Hasidic texts, and through classic works of art from such masters as Raphael, Rembrant, Rubens, Tissot, Abel Pann, Gustav Dore and Marc Chagall. The course will also become a journey into the role of women in modern Jewish faith.
Sessions 1-2: Eve -- temptation, forbidden fruit, the roots of patriarchy and women's spirituality
Sessions 3-4: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah -- jealousy, manipulation, sisterhood and love
Sessions 5-6: Miriam, Deborah, Hannah and Avigail -- prophecy, warfare, justice and prayer.
